Scholarship Awards
Two students from the Aabuthnott Gallimore High School (AGHS) were recently honored with scholarship awards at the Elite School function that was recently launched at the school. The scholarship awards were from Mr. Everton Howell, Vice President of the Kingston College Old Boys’ Association, New York Chapter, and the Aabuthnott Gallimore Alumni Association, Inc.
The recipients of these awards are Mr. Demiur Waugh who received our Future Leaders of Jamaica scholarship, and Miss Jaset Hylton, recipient of the Aabuthnott Gallimore Alumni Association, Inc. scholarship. Mr. Demiur Waugh and Miss Jaset Hylton are both grade 10 students.
Mr. Demiur Waugh has been involved in extra curricular activities at the school including member of the math club and school’s choir. He likes playing the piano and guitar, reading and watching television. Mr. Waugh will be taking Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Information Technology, Social Studies, Principles of Business, Music and Spanish at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) level while in grade 10. His philosophy is “No great piece of art work was created by a lazy artist.”
Miss Jaset Hylton hobbies include reading the Bible and watching television. Miss Hylton also likes track and field. Miss Hylton will be taking Mathematics, Information Technology and Social Studies at the CSEC level while in grade 10. Her philosophy is “Be a leader and not a follower.”
Presentation of the scholarship awards to Mr. Demiur Waugh and Miss Jaset Hylton was done at the Elite School badging ceremony to honor students for their overall academic improvements. The Chairman of the School Board Mr. Warren Newby (who is also a past student of the school) presented the awards to the students.
Present at the function were Mr. Floyd Green, Junior Minister of Education and Mr. Neville Gallimore, former Member of Parliament for the southwest constituency in St. Ann.
Mr. Demiur Waugh and Miss Jaset Hylton expressed their gratitude and promised to continue working hard to maintain the scholarships awarded by Mr. Everton Howell from the KC Old Boys’ Association, NY Chapter and the Aabuthnott Gallimore Alumni Association, Inc.
The Aabuthnott Gallimore Alumni Association, Inc. encourages alumni to get involved with their alma mater by participating in scholarships and mentoring programs at the school as we continue to recognize the hardworking students who are crafting their future at AGHS.
